Biscuit is a 2 lb Dutch with an unusual means of transportation, a scooter. Biscuit accompanies her owner on his scooter while he travels to work at a produce stand. There she becomes the center of attention as people stop by to say hello and watch her sample the wares.
Her owner, Coleman Rogers, has had house rabbits for pets for the last 17 years. His first was left at his house by a friend, and he was soon hooked on raising rabbits. Each of his rabbits has been litter box trained and cage-free. Biscuit spends most her time in Rogers’s kitchen.

Jennifer Russell of Silver Run, Maryland is the owner of the world’s oldest living rabbit. At 15-16 years old, Heather was confirmed by the Guinness World Records earlier this month. Russell adopted Heather in 1995 with papers saying the rabbit was two years old at the time. According to Russell, Heather was quite the diva in her prime growling at cats that came too close, and while still spunky, the elderly rabbit now spends her time relaxing on the comforter and eating hay.

In Japan, home to many adorable and also very quirky things, there are rabbit cuddling cafes that people can visit to relax. Basically, patrons of the cafe can play with the resident rabbits, who have been trained to be amenable to petting and handling, and they can also eat rabbit-shaped food and buy rabbit-shaped pottery.
Watch the video here.

Rabbit Rescue Inc. of Ontario held BunFest on Sunday, August 23rd. The event brought bunny owners from all over for a day of education and pampering. Owners were able to chat with vets and rescue staff about health, diet, care, and a variety of other issues. Bunnies could get pampered with spa treatments. There was even a bunny cafe where the bunnies could have a snack and take a rest.
There was an adoption area where visitors could meet rabbits in search of forever homes. Rabbit Rescue, Inc. took in more than 600 rabbits last year. Each year since being established in 2001 the rescue has taken in an increasing number of rabbits.

Andrea Bratt Frick has been clicker training rabbits since she adopted a bunny named Filbert who was able to jump 36 inches. She used a clicker to train Filbert to use his leaping ability to clear hurdles. She uses the clicker to signal the rabbit to do a trick, which is followed by a reward. The reward is dependent on the rabbit, some rabbits like particular veggies or pellets, while others are satisfied with a nose rub.
She also uses the clicker to help abused or neglected rabbits become comfortable around people. Clicker training helped these rabbits become less aggressive and more willing to be handled by humans. Frick works with the rabbits at Bunnies Urgently Needing Shelter in Santa Barbara, CA.

We plucked our first head of lettuce from our garden and, after a thorough washing, gave it to Coco and Cosette. A few investigative sniffs led to a full on eating contest between the two. I’d have to say our homegrown lettuce was a hit.

Benny is a Flemish Giant house rabbit living in Oxfordshire, England.
Measuring 82 centimeters long (~32 inches), Benny is longer than the previous record holder, Amy, a Continental Giant who died last May who measured 81.5 cm.
Benny joined Martin and Sharon Heather’s household last year when Martin came across the large bunny at an animal sanctuary. Although sanctuary staff warned that Benny didn’t really warm to people, Benny took an instant liking to Martin. With that, the Flemish Giant was welcomed into the Heather family.
Benny enjoys the run of the house and is often found snuggling with the family dog on the sofa.

No, not those Playboy bunnies. Sylvilagus palustris hefneri, a marsh rabbit subspecies named for Playboy founder Hugh Hefner, has been on the endangered species list since 1990. Current estimates claim that there are only 300 of the rabbits left in the wild. The rabbits live in an island environment and feed on specific grasses and plants. Human encroachment has resulted in habitat loss and deaths by domestic animals and cars.
Fortunately, researchers at the University of Central Florida have stepped in to aid the rabbits. They are researching the genetic diversity of the rabbit population. They believe that the more diverse the genetic population, the greater chance of adaptation and survival. They hope to determine the most genetically diverse group of rabbits and relocate them to an undisturbed area to foster population growth.
This subspecies of rabbit was named for Mr. Hefner when it was discovered in 1984 to honor the donations made by his organization for field research on rabbits.

Petfinder put together a list of the top 5 pet-friendly airlines in 2009.
I was pleasantly surprised to learn that pet rabbits are allowed inside the cabin with you on Continental Airlines. Unfortunately, they were the only airline on the list that allowed rabbits in the cabin if on the plane at all.
Pet Airways offers a pet-only travel option as well. The cabin is climate controlled and all animals are monitored and taken care of by attendants.
For the full pet-friendly airline list, see: Petfinder.com.
